Brynildsen excluded from the Rally of Great Britain

25-Oct-2009

In a shock development on Sunday evening, the winner of the Production Car World Rally Championship category of Rally GB, Eyvind Brynildsen, was excluded from the results after his car was found to be fitted with non regulation brakes.

At the rally's post event scrutineering, Brynildsen's Skoda Fabia 2000 was found to be fitted with rear brake callipers which did not comply with the homologation form for the car. The callipers fitted in Wales carried the correct homologation number, but were fitted with smaller pistons than those homologated for the vehicle.

The Stewards later summoned representatives of Brynildsen's team, Errani Team Group SRL, to appear before them to explain the non conformity.

On being questioned, Bynilden's engineer, Yannick Willocx, stated that the car was in the configuration as supplied by Skoda. A further spare calliper was supplied in evidence, which had the correct homologated part number on the box and on the calliper, but the measurements were also incorrect. Accordingly he stated that Skoda had supplied an incorrect item.

The Stewards agreed that there was no deliberate intention to deceive but nevertheless decided to exclude the Norwegian from the event.

Brynildsen's team did not to appeal the decision, which means Mitsubishi driver Martin Prokop was promoted from second to first place.
